Chris Ranford - Roam Guide
As an individual I have been connected with the ocean since day 1. Being brought up on the on the North Cornish coast, my back garden literally merged with the sand dunes of St Ives Bay. I spent all of my youth utilising the coast and sea to its maximum potential, whether it was for work or play and have always maintained a close relationship with this ever changing and mesmerising environment.
I have traveled the world extensively to explore coastlines for waves and adventure. As a surf coach and guide I have been fortunate to work all over the world with a wide variety of surf schools and outdoor activity centres. I have experience in all aspects of water sports coaching and guiding, which can be anything from getting someone in the sea for their very first time, right through to running week long, elite level surf guiding adventures in New Zealand.
I am a fully qualified beach lifeguard (NARS), ESF/ISA level 3 accredited surf coach and an ASI level 2 SUP instructor. I am also educated with a first class BSc Hons degree in Marine and Coastal Management and am a representative for the leading UK Enviro-Surf Charity ‘Surfers Against Sewage’.
My geographical knowledge of Cornwall is one of my key strengths, especially when it comes to the coast. Since I can remember I have always studied maps of Cornwall and spent countless hours of walking the coastal footpaths looking for new surf and beauty spots and am still doing this today.
